Spring Renewal Restorative

March 2, 2024 //  by michele

7 PM
Friday, March 22, 2024

As nature blossoms anew, so too can our bodies and minds find rejuvenation through the practice of restorative yoga. In this class, we invite you to embrace the energy of the season by releasing tension, fostering forgiveness, and welcoming a sense of renewal.

Focus on letting go of any lingering heaviness or resentment from the past as you awaken the body and release any stiffness accumulated during the winter months. With each breath, allow yourself to let go of physical tension, inviting a sense of openness and ease into every muscle and joint.

The class includes a series of restorative poses designed to promote deep relaxation and surrender. Supported by bolsters, blankets, and props, you’ll sink into each posture with a sense of comfort and security, allowing your body to fully release and unwind.

Throughout the practice, we’ll weave in elements of forgiveness and self-compassion, guiding you to cultivate a mindset of letting go and moving forward with grace. You’ll be encouraged to release any burdens or grievances you may be carrying, making space for healing and growth.

You will leave with a sense of lightness and renewal, ready to embrace the beauty and possibility of the season ahead while feeling refreshed, revitalized, and deeply connected to the spirit of the season.

Kids Yoga

February 13, 2024 //  by michele

10 AM Saturdays

4-week session begins March 2

Through a blend of playful poses, breathing exercises, mindfulness activities, and relaxation techniques, kids will develop strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination—all while having loads of fun! Whether they’re pretending to be soaring eagles, stretching like playful cats, or finding their inner calm like peaceful warriors, children will discover the joy of movement and the power of mindfulness in each class.

Our kid-friendly yoga sessions also emphasize important life skills such as focus, concentration, self-awareness, and emotional regulation. By engaging in yoga practices tailored to their age group, children will learn valuable tools to manage stress, build confidence, and foster a positive mindset that they can carry with them both on and off the mat.

Open to students in grades 3-5, each class will be 45 minutes of parent-free discovery.

Traci, our professional educator and certified yoga instructor will integrate stress management components into our kid’s yoga class, to empower children with valuable tools to navigate test-taking situations with greater confidence, focus, and resilience. Together, we can support them in cultivating a positive mindset and holistic well-being that extends far beyond the classroom.

Pre-registration for each child is required via the fitDegree app.

Hey, Perfectionists!

The Perfectionist’s Guide to Losing Control: Yoga Book Club

6:30 PM Sundays beginning March 3

The beautiful thing about taking on too much is how it reflects back to you the places where you can grow. This past year my opportunities to learn have been presented to me in abundance. One of my biggest lessons – and I’m still quite early in the learning process – is dealing with disappointment. What does it mean when things don’t go as planned?

My friend who is also a professional counselor says regularly “all disappointment is rooted in unmet expectations.” The adage being: lower your expectations. I can definitely see room for that in my life (specifically as it relates to my hopes for how my children will clean the house).

But also: no. I don’t want less from life and you’ll never find what you’re not looking for. I remember hearing a seminar once where a pastor-type said “what if I told you that on this day when you went to church, you would hear God’s voice? Well, you’d show up and listen.” I’ve found this to be true: when you pay attention, you’ll find what you’re looking for. I don’t want to become a person that simply expects nothing and looks for nothing.

I want to be the type of person who expects goodness and revels in beauty anywhere it’s found. I know this world has so much to offer, I don’t want to let it off the hook with mediocrity. I think there’s more to be found.

In this moment, I’m exploring the idea of managing expectations without lowering standards. I’m striving to allow circumstances in my life – relationships, roles, experiences – that hold the potential to disappoint or delight me. This tension requires me to acknowledge that not all disappointment is rooted in my own value or worth. Just because I’m being let down doesn’t mean I did or did not try hard enough.

Instead, I’m leaning into my gifts of seeking big and beautiful things while not taking it personal. The teachings say, “[God] makes [the] sun rise on people whether they are good or evil. [God] lets rain fall on them whether they are just or unjust.” I don’t have to find blame, throw shame or even find a reason. But I can adjust my expectations for myself and how I can handle all situations.

My time on my mat shows me this ALL. THE. TIME. When a hip flexor prevents me from finding a lunge that I know will help me release. When my flow feels encumbered by my raggedy breath. Sometimes things don’t go as expected, but that doesn’t mean I’m wrong, bad, and tragically flawed. I just keep returning to the mat, to the practice to discover what I can find that reminds me of all that I know that is good. (Honestly, how have I avoided this life lesson after all these years of yoga?)

If this concept is new to you, or if you’re like me and it takes a lot longer to learn, this is the invitation to join me in doing the work. I’ll be leading a Yoga Book Club this spring using The Perfectionist’s Guide to Losing Control by Katherine Morgan Schafler. Rather than treating me like I’m broken for desiring good things, the author invites me to practice holding the tension without giving up on hope. It will be a spring cleaning of letting things go – specifically my expectations of controlling my way to perfection.

If you’re interested in exploring this topic with the support of other driven and intelligent women, join us for this 4-week series.

Balance through Boundaries

September 5, 2023 //  by michele

Sunday, September 24, 2:30 PM

with Guest Instructor Holly Schweitzer Dunn, LISW

While yoga contributes to extra length in our muscles and spaciousness in bodies, we may find that in life we tend to be stretched to the limits. Establishing boundaries that honor our connections is an imperative practice for mind, body and being. By understanding and working within our limits, we can respond mindfully and find balance.

In this workshop, mental health professional (and licensed independent social worker) Holly Scheweitzer Dunn will walk us through the importance of understanding and enforcing limits in our relationships to work, home, and other people.

Content will be conversational in style and questions are welcome as we individually work through how boundaries can strengthen and support our relationships as well as allowing our own inner flame to flourish.
