Important Studio Update Regarding Covid-19

March 13, 2020 //  by michele

We’re closed for the time being.

I know yoga is one of our best tools for wellness, calmness, steadiness and connectedness that our community and households need right now. A few of you specifically asked me not to close. I understand the need for a supportive community and space to be reminded that we’re okay and will be okay.

Being in the wellness industry, I take everyone’s health very seriously. Being in the yoga sphere, I mean it when I say that we’re all connected. We belong to one another. How we each respond to a global pandemic is not just about our individual needs and rights, but also about our collective responsibilities. And how we respond earlier, rather than later, is crucial.

While the practice of yoga is essential to my well-being, the studio space is not essential for our collective thriving for the next few weeks. Yoga is important but not essential right now. My conscious will not let me remain open. Sometimes, we need told what to do, especially when it’s hard. (How many of you won’t go to child’s pose and rest until I ask it of you? Then, yes, I’m talking to you.)  This is me telling you: stay home.

That said, I’m working with all the technology I can get my hands on to try to offer you either live-streamed classes or a collection of pre-recorded practices to work with at home. Once this is available I’ll be sending out a text/email alert with details, so keep your eyes open.

I’m not sure how long this will take. I’m not sure when I’ll feel good about re-opening. I’m listening to the science and my heart to know I need to close; I’m hoping the science and my heart will inform me when it’s safe to open.  As always, I’m open to questions, comments, concerns and conversation about navigating these challenges.

Yin, Somatic, and Restorative Yoga Workshop

East Meets West in Body, Mind and Heart

Learn how eastern perspectives relate to western understanding of the human potential. Awaken and align the relationship between bones, tissues, organs, and glands to illuminate the subtle energetic pathways in the body, known as chakras, for a fully integrated experience.

This slower practice beginning with generously held yin poses is designed to help you notice what signals and messages your body has to offer. Allow time and gravity to be your ally in this nourishing, meditative experience. From this place of awareness,  we’ll relax into deeply restorative poses to allow time to soak in the embodied presence of the Self.

This workshop provides information from multiple sources as we include presentation-style understanding of eastern modalities, an experiential and body-centered practice.

Sunday, April 5 | 1-3 PM |$30*

March Mindfulness

March 9, 2020 //  by michele

UPDATE 3/13: This just isn’t the right time, so this challenge has been postponed. We’ll try again next March!

Yoga is not a competition; however, there’s nothing wrong with adding a level of challenge to get you out of a rut. So here’s a little fun to go with the zeal of March basketball!

Each person is their own “team” and the goal is to move through all 4 rounds. To win a round, you simply need to attend one class in each round. To participate, simply attend a Round 1 class and put your name on the tourney bracket on our studio wall. Throw the same $10 that would’ve went to a bracket pool into the jar in the studio as an entry fee and feel good that we’ll give that to Wyandot County 4-H at the end of our challenge to support camp scholarships.

Round 1

To seize a victory in Round 1 (and thus participate in the challenge), come to any class between March 16 and March 23. There’s a total of 10 classes to choose from:

Monday, March 16 5 PM Yoga Strong
Monday, March 16, 6:30 All-Levels Yoga Flow
Tuesday, March 17, 3:30 PM Move + Meditate
Wednesday, March 18, 6:15 AM Rise & Shine
Wednesday, March 18, 6 PM All-Levels Flow
Thursday, March 19, 9 AM All-Levels Flow
Thursday, March 19, 3:30 PM Yoga Strong
Saturday, March 21, 8 AM All-Levels Flow
Monday, March 23, 5 PM Yoga Strong
Monday, March 23, 6:30 PM All-Levels Flow

Round 2

To move past Round 2, choose from any of the 8 classes between March 24-30:

Tuesday, March 24, 3:30 PM Move + Meditate
Wednesday, March 25, 6:15 AM Rise & Shine
Wednesday, March 25, 6 PM All-Levels Flow
Thursday, March 26, 9 AM All-Levels Flow
Thursday, March 26, 3:30 PM Yoga Strong
Saturday, March 28, 8 AM All-Levels Flow
Monday, March 30, 5 PM Yoga Strong
Monday, March 30, 6:30 PM All-Levels Flow

*Bye-Week Bonus! If you missed the first round, come to the Tuesday, March 31, 3:30 PM Move + Meditate and consider it a bi-week and jump in the competition!

Round 3

Round 3 is the Final 4. Attend one:

Wednesday, April 1, 6:15 AM Rise & Shine
Wednesday, April 1, 6 PM All-Levels Flow
Thursday, April 2, 3:30 PM Yoga Strong
Saturday, April 4, 8 AM All-Levels Flow

Championship

The Championship Round is Monday, April 6 prior to the real-deal ballgame. Attend either the 5 PM Yoga Strong or the 6:30 PM All-Levels Flow.

We’ll have a tournament “bracket” on the studio wall so you can watch your “team” march forth toward victory!

All winners will earn free classes – it’s your choice to take either 3 free classes or a 2-week UNLIMITED Membership!

We’ll feel what it’s like to find our center, practice standing strong, play with balance and then bring down the energy.

Reminder: please bring a completed release form with you to class or have a guardian drop in to sign one before class begins.

Sign up online as spots are limited!

Faerie Organics Now Available

February 24, 2020 //  by michele

Pure. Organic. Beauty.

Organic, cruelty free, gluten free cosmetics and skincare. Wildcrafted and sustainably sourced beauty.

Up until about a year ago, “taking care of my skin” meant rinsing my face with water in the shower, washing my body with locally made soap, and sometimes using sunscreen.

This year, thanks to an initial visit to my dermatologist and subsequent round of mini-surgeries, I’ve come to accept that my skin is a vital organ of my body, my first barrier to dis-ease and the first layer of matter that decides what I absorb and become.

With the help of friends and those with a bit more wisdom around what materials are good for my body (and what chemicals are harmful to our body and earth), I found Faerie Organics. I’ve used their cleanser and moisturizer to keep my face clean and have found it to be gentle yet effective.

I also embraced their line of makeup; it’s powder-based so you can control the intensity by application. The powder foundation and blush is the perfect texture for my skin; I’ve added the finishing Veil to my repetoire, as well.

Other than what it’s made from, I chose Faerie because it also carries a pricepoint that feels manageable. The eyeshadows are just $10! The full-sized Veils, Primers, and Foundations run from $14-18. As an intro offer, you can get a freebie blusher, bronzer, or sheer veil with every purchase of a full-sized product purchase.

I’ve ordered a sample foundation in EVERY SHADE, so you can buy several before committing – they’re just $3 each and they’ll get you several applications. Give me the feedback on what you prefer so I can stock appropriately.

Calling Young Artists!

February 10, 2020 //  by michele

Do you love to sketch and draw? Do you wish you could share your work with the world – maybe even see it when you’re out and about in town? I’m looking for a design to feature on my spring t-shirt (or tank) and want to include the original work of someone who enjoys design. Also, you will be paid for your work at the rate of 10% per item sold. (I establish the sale price.)

I’m looking for image more than words, though a short phrase can be included. I love images rich in meaning and I’m partial to “earthy” elements – mountains, trees, flowers, rocks, rivers, and sky. Your design will only be printed in white or black ink, so your focus is line and shape. The less fill, the better.

Those who are most likely to purchase and wear this shirt are white women ages 35-55 who have children, though certainly individuals outside this meager description will also wear them. Ultimately, I will make the decision of what image I want on the shirt, with the opinions of my regular yogis influencing me. This situation is not democratic or scientific in nature, it’s artistic. If no submissions meet the quality standards to represent my studio, I will not use them.

If you need direction or inspiration, consider coming to take a class. (If you are under the age of 16, please bring an adult with you; those aged 16-17 need a signed release from a guardian.) Themes on which I regularly teach from or phrases I often say are as such:

  • It’s already there.
  • Not perfect, but good.
  • Stay connected and grounded and open.
  • Joy is an inside job
  • Notice what you notice
  • What is it like to breathe right here?

While it’s fine to search the internet for inspiration, it is inappropriate and unethical to steal the work of other artists – including images, concepts and word-for-word sayings. Please let this project be a beautiful exercise of noticing what arises from within your own soul, gets translated through your hands and put onto paper (and ultimately, fabric.)

Images may be hand drawn if that’s your specialty or created via graphic design but must be original in nature.  Artwork will be created digitally is best sized to scale at 600 dpi in photoshop. Please submit your creations via email by April 15.

Your work will be printed in single-colored (likely white) ink on a non-fitted, colored tee/tank from this type of color scheme:

Yoga Book Club

February 7, 2020 //  by michele

This March, the Yoga Book Club book will be one of my long-time, top 5, best ever non-fiction books. (What are the other 4, you ask? Oh, please don’t limit me, we don’t have enough time to talk about that right now.)

Daring Greatly fundamentally changed my posture toward the world and myself. It speaks to how we live in relationship with others, including our family, community and professional roles.

As always with our YBC, we’ll meet weekly – this time for 5 weeks, beginning March 1, from 6:30-8 PM to discuss the week’s readings and allow the concepts to integrate into our bodies through a yoga practice.

Cost: $75 for the 5-week series. The book is not included, but it’s old enough that several copies should be available at the library. (However, if you’re an underliner, you might as well invest.)

Limit: 12 participants. 2 spots are already filled.

Outline

Week 1 What It Means to Dare Greatly, My Adventures in the Arena, and Chapter 1: Scarcity: Looking Inside Our Culture of “Never Enough.”

Week 2 Chapter 2, Debunking the Vulnerability Myths and Chapter 3, Understanding and Combating Shame
(*It’s a lot of reading this week – you might want to read ahead!)

Week 3 Chapter 4, The Vulnerability Armory

Week 4 Chapter 5, Minding the Gap: Cultivating Change and Closing the Disengagement Divide, Chapter 6: Disruptive Engagement: Daring to Rehumanize Education and Work

Week 5 Chapter 7, Wholehearted Parenting: Daring to Be the Adults We Want Our Children to Be, and Final Thoughts.

It’s Galentine’s Day!

January 24, 2020 //  by michele

Thursday, Feb. 13, 5:15 PM

$25 A portion of the proceeds will be going to a local organization promoting female empowerment.

Thursday, Feb. 13, 5:15 PM | $25
Ladies! February 13 is known as Galentine’s Day, a date to celebrate female friendships and the “glorious female warrior” that you are! Bring your BFF for a quick, powerful flow followed by – what else? – WAFFLES. And a treat courtesy of North High Brewing.

We’ll take our intention of celebrating our “glorious female warrior” nature and put it into action in our community: a portion of the proceeds from this experience will be forwarded to a local non-profit focused on female empowerment.

Because this is a special offering, regular passes do not apply. However, members do receive 20% off as a perk of their ongoing commitment.
