Upgrade your mat: It’s for the children

August 11, 2020 //  by michele

Teachers are getting creative when it comes to outdoor learning and I’m seeing several post about getting old yoga mats for kids. Perhaps your mat has some age and served you for many, many practices and so you think to yourself, “well, I could give this one up and get a new one!”

Of course, you can saunter off to T.J. Maxx and pick one up, as I’ve also been known to do. OR, you can treat yourself to a really, really great mat.

If you’re leaning toward the second option, let me help persuade you to give yourself a little Surviving 2020 Treat: a sale!

Get 25% off Manduka mats currently in stock and 20% off any special order Manduka Mat through this Sunday!

Order or purchase your mat through Woven Yoga and save on retail pricing when you give your old mat to a local school. (And to make it easy, I’ll even collect them in the studio and save you a trip.)

So, you take the Manduka Mat Quiz to zoom into what type of mat works best for your body and your practice. Browse my in-stock selection and purchase for 25% off. You can take it with you at the time of purchase for immediate gratification.

If you’d rather pick out your favorite color or find a longer length, than take a look at the selection on the Manduka website and reach out to me to special order on Sunday, August 16. I’ll still give you 20% off the listed retail price (I cannot guarantee that I can honor online sale pricing) and have it in the studio before school starts.

To make it easy on you, you can leave your recycled mat at the studio and I’ll get it to a classroom heading outdoors this fall.

So go ahead and browse these beautiful, quality mats. It’s for the children.

Let’s Get Outside

July 23, 2020 //  by michele

There’s a million reasons to enjoy a yoga practice outside right now. The gorgeous weather, the connection with the earth and the elements, the fresh air… and now, with our state and community needing to care a bit more care of one another, it provides space, safety and peace of mind. Friends have graciously offered their large, private outdoor space for us to practice whenever we wish, and I’m going to take them up on it.

Our next outdoor practices are:

Tuesday, August 11 at 7:15 PM: All-Levels Flow

Everyone currently registered for the All-Levels Flow are already taken care of. I’ve changed the class so that a greater number of participants can join us.

But what if it rains?

Well, the forecast says it won’t. But alas, we live in Ohio and that might change. The first 6 who have registered will get a spot in the studio. All other participants will be refunded.

I am asking that anyone who plans to come pre-registers so that I can communicate any changes easily.

This will be the first of our outdoor classes. Not all future classes will be outside – they will be announced ahead of time and noted in the online calendar.

Welcome to the South Park

Lovingly dubbed the “South Park” by nearby residents, the green space is the center of the homes on 7th, High and Pleasant View Drive. This will allow us to be out-of-doors with privacy – there are many trees to shield us from drivers-by. The kind souls at Simply Flooring & Fireplace said we are welcome to park near the back and the west side of the lot. You can also park on the grass on the other side of the parking lot behind Loose Family Furniture.

Next week’s Livestream

March 19, 2020 //  by michele

March 23-27 Yoga Schedule

In order to keep things sustainable (and for the internet companies to keep up!) I’ve changed the schedule for our virtual yoga. Because many of us are now at home without a tight schedule AND because a group of you are using the recording version, I’ll have something for you twice each week – a Strong and a Flow class.

Classes are priced in the system as $10, but there’s a Streaming Package for $10 that includes one of each class, a nice little BOGO to make the day brighter. Don’t forget, those who are keeping the world in motion (doctors, nurses, hospital staff, retail workers, recently displaced waitstaff, small business owners) should message me for a code for free access.

Monday Meditation 8 AM – Free! Join your hearts and spirits with those of us from home. Listen to the recording:

Wednesday 9 AM Yoga Strong – sign up online to get the Zoom link and the follow up recording email. (I have a new page with all the recordings coming soon….)

Friday 9 AM All-Levels Flow – sign up online to get the Zoom link and the follow up recording email.

Love, peace and sanity to you all,

Michele

We’re in this together

March 13, 2020 //  by michele

If your family is like mine, because we are young and overall healthy, our concern about becoming infected with the actual disease is much less than our concern about neighbors and our beloved 89-year-old Grandma Cella who hold a much higher danger. Our family has talked openly about the changes we need to make so that we can help protect those more likely to be ill.

And, from the mouths of babes, our kids’ questions revealed other important concerns. One of our children asked if their dad would still be paid while not working for the next three weeks. We are so fortunate that he will – and we were able to explain that this is not true for all families.

One big concern for many adults centers on the economy. As a local small business owner, I feel this. Hard. I’m asking you to thoughtfully, prayerfully, mindfully consider how you can become an ally to neighbors, friends and your community at large while navigating these challenges. Here’s a few suggestions and I’d love to hear back if you have more.

  1. Consider purchases as investments in a business’ future existence. I’m asking you for generosity: by continuing your memberships, this ship can stay afloat. I will of course honor any request for changes, but I am asking that you give it consideration.

  2. Spend your money locally where you can. If you’re doing a project over break, buy your lumber from Rall’s or Pfiefer’s. Get your groceries from A&A instead of Walmart. These smaller businesses rely heavily on cash flow to pay their employees – they just don’t have the safety net that the big corporate structures have. Everyone will take a loss for the next few months, but can we agree that Walmart can afford to do so a little more?

  3. If you’re fearful of things like eating out at the moment, support local food service by purchasing gift cards and then enjoy it later. Don Tomasso’s is offering no-touch delivery, Shotzy’s has carry out, and you can get a Los Arco’s taco to go (but unfortunately, not a margarita.)

  4. I’m seeing an outpouring of offers to help assist local families with food and childcare in this time. If you know of any local organizations “directing traffic” in this regard, please let me know – I’d love to give the Woven Yoga voice as a megaphone.

The practice of yoga is about finding a sense of steadiness and ease. Strength and flexibility. Making space for joy and hardship to co-exist. Now is our chance to practice in our life what we’ve found on our mat. Together.

Calling Young Artists!

February 10, 2020 //  by michele

Do you love to sketch and draw? Do you wish you could share your work with the world – maybe even see it when you’re out and about in town? I’m looking for a design to feature on my spring t-shirt (or tank) and want to include the original work of someone who enjoys design. Also, you will be paid for your work at the rate of 10% per item sold. (I establish the sale price.)

I’m looking for image more than words, though a short phrase can be included. I love images rich in meaning and I’m partial to “earthy” elements – mountains, trees, flowers, rocks, rivers, and sky. Your design will only be printed in white or black ink, so your focus is line and shape. The less fill, the better.

Those who are most likely to purchase and wear this shirt are white women ages 35-55 who have children, though certainly individuals outside this meager description will also wear them. Ultimately, I will make the decision of what image I want on the shirt, with the opinions of my regular yogis influencing me. This situation is not democratic or scientific in nature, it’s artistic. If no submissions meet the quality standards to represent my studio, I will not use them.

If you need direction or inspiration, consider coming to take a class. (If you are under the age of 16, please bring an adult with you; those aged 16-17 need a signed release from a guardian.) Themes on which I regularly teach from or phrases I often say are as such:

  • It’s already there.
  • Not perfect, but good.
  • Stay connected and grounded and open.
  • Joy is an inside job
  • Notice what you notice
  • What is it like to breathe right here?

While it’s fine to search the internet for inspiration, it is inappropriate and unethical to steal the work of other artists – including images, concepts and word-for-word sayings. Please let this project be a beautiful exercise of noticing what arises from within your own soul, gets translated through your hands and put onto paper (and ultimately, fabric.)

Images may be hand drawn if that’s your specialty or created via graphic design but must be original in nature.  Artwork will be created digitally is best sized to scale at 600 dpi in photoshop. Please submit your creations via email by April 15.

Your work will be printed in single-colored (likely white) ink on a non-fitted, colored tee/tank from this type of color scheme:
