It’s Galentine’s Day!

Ladies! February 13 is known as Galentine’s Day, a date to celebrate female friendships and the “glorious female warrior” that you are! Bring your BFF for a quick, powerful flow followed by – what else? – WAFFLES. And a treat courtesy of North High Brewing. 

We’ll take our intention of celebrating our “glorious female warrior” nature and put it into action in our community: a portion of the proceeds from this experience will be forwarded to a local non-profit focused on female empowerment.

Because this is a special offering, regular passes do not apply. However, members do receive 20% off as a perk of their ongoing commitment.

Tips for keeping the studio healthy

During this time of year, when germs seem everpresent, there are a few things we should keep in mind as it relates to our shared yoga space.

  • Movement is a wonderful way to ward off dis-ease. Our lymphatic system that cycles out the toxins, waste, and unwanted materials, doesn’t have a “flusher.” The body depends on the heart and the breath to keep things moving. It’s no wonder why yoga can be so helpful at keeping our immune systems in optimal condition.
  • While we want to use movement to flush potential bugs, please be reasonable if you’re showing symptoms of a virus. Sleep and rest is when the body heals itself. Be thoughtful and considerate of other yogis by staying home when you’re ill. This means staying home from the studio, as well as the grocery, work, and public events. Please practice the deeply spiritual discipline of rest.
  • When you visit the studio, remember basic hygiene principles:
  1. Wash your hands regularly.
  2. Use a mat spray or disinfectant before/after class to keep germs from following you around.
  3. If you’ve been sick or are starting to feel ill, please refrain from using props such as eye covers and blankets around your face.

The Alcohol Experiment

Considering a “Dry January”?

Beyond the physical benefits (better sleep, improved digestion, mental clarity), January is the perfect time to mentally explore your relationship with alcohol.

The Alcohol Experiment, a book by Annie Grace is a “30-day alcohol free challenge to interrupt your habits.” Join others who are curious about their habits and making the switch to more sustainable and healthy belief patterns. We’ll meet each week for 45 minutes of conversation and meditation (there is no movement element to this offering).

(This Experiment is not for those who have a physiological dependence on alcohol – those individuals are best served with medical and mental health professionals.)

Anatomy Workshop: Lower body principles and exploration with Mary Borton

Saturday, January 4, 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM | $45

Find support in all the standing postures in your practice and your overall posture in life.

We’ll begin our anatomy study focused on the feet and legs and travel up through the pelvis and sacrum to build our understanding from the ground up. We’ll also examine how the effects of gravity, anti-gravity, and habitual patterns affect our posture. As we explore the relationships between the alignment of bones and the response of the nervous system and tissues, we can rediscover clear pathways of alignment to create stable mobility and optimal ease in our bodies on the mat and off!


Practice and integration

In this practice, we’ll take what we’ve learned from our anatomy study of the lower body (and the whole body) into a body-mind-heart practice using breath, intentional movement, and self-inquiry to establish a sense of deep connection to self and our ground of being.

Pressing Pause

Studio update: I have no update. There is still a hole where windows used to be. Insurance is involved. Contractors are involved. Stuff.

I’m grateful to Viceroy and the folks at Shotzy’s for their hospitality; I’m wary of overstaying as our presence does require a bit from their end. (If you see Jewel give her a hug of thanks for locking, unlocking and filling water for our convenience!)

For next week, beginning October 7, we’re going to press pause. It’s probably one of the most yogic things we can do.

My hope is that this pause is long enough to feel refreshing and not so long that we become stagnant. Keep checking back, I’ll be adding classes online when I know that the studio can welcome us back. I also will communicate via email, text, and social media.
