Changing signup platforms

October 30, 2020 //  by michele

Beginning in November we’re piloting a new software to sign up for classes called fitDegree. This has a user app that you use to register for classes and make purchases. If you were formerly in the Vagaro system, here’s how you connect to your passes and memberships:

  1. Download the fitDegree app from the app store or Google Play.
  2. Search for Woven Yoga
  3. Click “Create an account.” Use the same email that you used in Vagaro. (Can’t remember? Check Vagaro or email me to confirm.)
  4. It will ask to link your account. Choose yes!
  5. Check your email and verify your email. You’ll want to check both boxes to get links for livestream classes and confirm your registration.
  6. Return to the app to complete user info (phone number and birthdate are required). I recommend push notifications for class updates and studio news.
  7. Anyone with a pass or membership will have a Transfer Pass attached to your account. You can double check my work to be sure you have the right number of classes. (Unlimited Members have 10 and more can be added as needed.)
  8. Those with a membership (Weekly, More than Weekly, Unlimited) will see one listed in their account. I’ll have my computer available at class the next week or so – just bring your preferred card for payment to your next class, or we’ll schedule a call to get this taken care of.
  9. You’ll be asked to sign a Liability Release waiver before your first class; you’ll be asked to sign a COVID waiver before you register for each class.
  10. Explore! Note upcoming classes, look at the abilities to purchase passes and gift certificates, and there’s a friend-finding feature that allows you to see other yogis who coming to class.

Chair Yoga at Woven

October 12, 2020 //  by michele

Yoga might not be for everybody, but it is for any body.

Our Chair Yoga classes use chairs, the walls, and other props throughout the whole class so you feel supported. Toni designs these classes with a sense of gentleness towards the wrist, shoulder, hip, knee and ankle joints: working toward flexibility and a greater range of motion mindfully and with purpose.

The class also uses chair work while gaining strength and improving balance. We use the support of the chair and the wall to find a sense of centeredness while keeping safe. With precise cuing, you’ll learn to utilize sleepy muscles to find ways of moving that feel spacious and strong.

Our standard All-Levels Flow class connects the body and the breath using a series of poses that moves from the ground to standing throughout the class. This works great for many people, but some individuals prefer to stay seated or move to the floor only once through a practice. Chair Yoga and Gentle Yoga begin seated, moves to standing, and ends with a seated, comfortable and relaxed rest pose.

Chair Yoga: Tuesdays 5 PM
Gentle Yoga: Wednesdays 4:30 PM

Just because you’re not running marathons anymore – or even though a flight of stairs might leave you out of breath – doesn’t mean you’re sentenced to a life of immobility. Science confirms the benefits of a regular yoga practice for the whole body: better sleep, lower hypertension, fewer injuries related to falling, not to mention the mental and emotional benefits related to stress, anxiety, depression and other invisible illnesses.

Yoga Benefits

  • “…yoga is an effective means to reduce oxidative stress and to improve antioxidant defense in elderly hypertensive individuals.” (Source: Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research)
  • “…yoga’s emphasis on flexibility and balance may help to reduce the risk of fall-related injuries,17–19 which are prevalent among older adults and a leading cause of injury-related hospitalisation.34 Healthy ageing does not merely correspond to longevity, but also optimising well-being.11 With a holistic focus that includes physical, mental and spiritual well-being, yoga could be a suitable and appealing health maintaining activity for adults who find aerobic exercise difficult or impractical.” (Source: BMJ Medical Journal)
  • “Based on the available scientific literature, this review suggests that the regular practice of Yoga can be considered as an effective intervention in improving physical (reduces heart rate, blood pressure, blood glucose, oxidative damage, fatigue, weakness, fear of fall, and improve heart rate variability, baroreflex sensitivity, insulin sensitivity, physical functions, mobility, flexibility, and urinary incontinence), mental (reduces depression, anxiety), emotional (reduces anger, stress, tension and improve self-efficacy), social (improve life satisfaction), and vital (improved vitality) planes of elderly individuals, offering a better quality of sleep and quality of life.” (Source: Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies)
  • “…the [Yoga Intervention] group showed significant improvements in a range of subjective factors, including overall sleep quality; sleep efficiency; sleep latency and duration; self-assessed sleep quality; fatigue; general well-being; depression; anxiety; stress; tension; anger; vitality; and function in physical, emotional, and social roles.” (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)

Barre at Woven Yoga

September 25, 2020 //  by michele

Woven Yoga is excited to add Barre classes to the schedule!

Since experiencing barre several years ago, I’ve been hoping to bring it into the studio. My friend Kelsey has been practicing at Pure Barre for years and recently completed her training with Barre Intensity at GoYoga and she’s ready to share this powerful practice.

Barre isn’t a form of yoga, but rather it taps into poses and adds strong movement to smaller muscle groups that often get looked over in traditional workouts like running and biking. For yogis who are regularly lengthening our musculature, a practice such as barre that aims to work those areas will help to keep us safe and strong.

Barre classes run on the same pricing and packaging as yoga and it’s already been added to options for passholders and members – just sign up the way you would normally for a yoga class.

Bring your mat, a small (1-3 pound) set of hand weights and come ready to get sweaty.

Kelsey is offering 3 classes each week:

  • Thursday, 7 PM
  • Friday, 4:30 PM Barre Express (in & out in 30 minutes)
  • Saturday, 10 AM

Fall Favorite: Golden Milk

September 23, 2020 //  by michele

This time of year I love to start my day with a warm, filling mug of Golden Milk. You can search the internet all over for recipes (there are lots!) but a few basic elements you’ll find consistent: a milk and tumeric. I love adding a spot of ghee to mine when my throat feels dry and scratchy from allergies (hint: my children have taken to adding a spot of ghee to any of their tea during this time of year for it’s throat-soothing qualities). I also looooove the warming spices of cinnamon, cardamom, clove and nutmeg. I make mine on the stovetop – keep an eye on it or it will bubble over quickly!

Golden Milk, per the Minehart Home

  • 2 cups milk of choice (we are DIGGING the oatmilk right now and it’s much more sustainable than almond milk, and more tolerable for the tummies in our home)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 whole clove
  • Several generous shakes cardamom
  • 1 inch fresh ginger, peeled and sliced open
  • 1/2 inch fresh turmeric (available at Meijer in Marion), peeled and grated
  • 1-2 tsp ghee
  • 1-2 tsp maple syrup or honey

Bring to a simmer and then strain into your favorite mug

Ayurvedic Reset Experience

September 6, 2020 //  by michele

We’ve been talking in the studio about the Ayurveda workshop and the Reset that is an option to experience the week of September 14. I’ve fielded a few questions and in case anyone else was wondering, I thought I’d put out my responses.

Will I poop my pants?
I sure hope not! While paying attention to the way our digestive processes leave the body is an element of Ayurveda, the reset process is overall very gentle. You will poop, maybe more than usual, but nothing that will cause a disruption in your daily life.

Tell me about kitchari.
My family and I eat kitchari as a regular part of our life and my children even request it. It’s flavorful and filling and very nourishing. In the fall reset you can add root vegetables for variety.

How long is it?
As long as you wish it to be, but I’ll be guiding you Monday – Thursday. On Friday you can begin to ease yourself back into other foods. It is highly recommended that you use the week prior to your reset (that is this week!) to scale back on your intake of caffeine, alcohol and foods that feel hard for your body to digest.

What happens when I don’t do it all?
This practice is between you and you. This is a practice I regularly partake in and I’m glad to share with you what I’ve learned along the way, but how you participate is completely up to you. I won’t be double checking your work unless you ask me to, and even then I don’t look at these types of opportunities as “failures” or “successes”. It’s about showing up to yourself, whatever that might mean to you, at this time.

What will I need?
I’ll be providing a number of supplies, but you will want to have on hand:

  • ghee (clarified butter, available at most grocery stores and inexpensively at Aldi; you can also make this from butter)
  • whole cumin seed
  • cumin powder
  • coriander powder
  • ground turmeric
  • unsweetened almond milk (or coconut or oat milk)
  • a few organic lemons
  • fresh cilantro if that is a taste you enjoy
  • Cinnamon/cinnamon sticks, nutmeg and/or cardamom if those are flavors you enjoy

How do I sign up?

>Checkout
If you’re an Unlimited Member, your discount will automatically be added **If you’re on the special Teacher Unlimited Pass, you can use the code RESET at checkout for unlimited member pricing.

When do I need to commit?
Honestly, the sooner the better for logistical purposes. And it’s best for you, too.

What about my other questions?
Shoot me a text, send me an email, whatever. There is no silly question and I applaud curiosity as a spiritual gift

Ayurveda & Fall Reset

August 29, 2020 //  by michele

Yoga is far more than a series of poses you perform on your mat. Yoga – yoking, linking, connecting – is a way of living.

The winds and changes of fall affect us all…

Ayurveda, the “sister science of yoga” is an ancient way of seeing the world using elements, textures, tastes, and sensory experiences. By understanding the qualities of what you eat, watch, breathe, and think, you can understand how to restore balance and make effective changes in routine that don’t require rearranging your entire existence.

This fall at Woven Yoga we will host a 90-minute workshop on the basic premises of Ayurveda. We’ll explore the Doshas and provide a framework for understanding your unique constitution so that you can approach the changing season with grace and ease.

This workshop will be held at 6 PM on Sunday, September 13. Cost: $35.

Sign up for the Fall Ayurveda Workshop

Use your newly discovered understanding of Ayurveda to transition into fall unlike any other detox experiences.

The last half hour of the workshop will include an outline of self-care practices to engage during the fall Vata season and introduce the Fall Reset experience. This week includes changing habits related to diet, movement, and mental well-being to re-center and ground yourself in nourishment and care.

Woven Yoga will also host a guided Reset experience the week of September 14-17, following the workshop.

The guided Reset experience includes:

  • Outline of daily self-care practices
  • Most necessary ingredients for the kitchari mono-diet
  • Oils for abhayanga (self-massage)
  • Daily guided meditations
  • Daily pranayama (breath) practices
  • Priority scheduling for daily yoga practices
  • Community and support while processing the experience
  • End-of-week group reflection and personal intention-setting practice (Thursday, September 17 at 5:30 PM)

Cost: $70 | $40 for Unlimited Members

*Those on the Surviving September pass, email me for discounted pricing codes
