Making New Year’s Plans?

December 15, 2021 //  by michele

Making New Year’s Plans?

After the ball drops and the champagne flutes are empty, we’ll be looking at a bright and shiny 2022. After several years of “unprecedented times” we’re now familiar with the fact that change is inevitable. There is no “normal” except that which you create.

The question is: What do you want to make with it?

At Woven Yoga, we’re all about intention. We ask the question before, during and after class: Why did you come? What are you looking for? How do you want to leave?

There are many approaches to living a life with intention – maybe you have a groove, a way of aligning yourself and your days so that you’re seeing the growth you desire. AWESOME. Let us know how we can support that.

If you’re looking for a few tools or jumping off points, our January is filled with starting spots.

Intention Setting Workshop

Sunday, January 2, 10 AM

With the New Year – and the New Moon – it’s the perfect time to get in touch with what you want from your life. Join us as we walk through the process of reflecting on the past, releasing what holds us back, and re-imagining what life might be like as we create some boundaries against energy-suckers and create space for your hopes to take root and blossom.

This 2-hour workshop will include time for active, personal reflection, meditation & visualization exercises, and a 20-30 minute body practice. This session comes with a Simple Self planner, a guide toward building days, weeks and months that move you toward your intentions (retail price $40, included with registration).

$68 registration ($58 member pricing)

Wednesdays, 5:30 PM begins January 12

Ready to start your new year with something new for your body, mind and soul? Our Slow Flow for Newbies series is a 4-week introduction to yoga. If you’ve never done a down dog, it’s still the place for you. We’ll cover poses, transitions, and learn what it feels like to relax in savasana.

How about instead of starting with shame, we begin with love?

Yoga is a practice that involves your body. In fact, it’s the practiced that helped me befriend my own body, which changed my relationship to the world. (It’s quite something to feel welcomed in the space where you live.)

If your new year’s resolutions have anything to do with wellness, health, or weight, can I give you a special invitation?

Can you lead with gratitude and compassion?

No, it’s not necessarily the default mode. That’s why I’m bringing in a little help from my friends.

This January the studio is hosting a series of workshops and events to help you work with your mind and your beliefs about living in a body. Diane Reile will use her tools of information, personal reflection and hypnotherapy to help you expose and even replace negative beliefs about your body. Then registered dietician & nutrition counselor Lauren Samuel will offer an introduction to Intuitive Eating, an anti-diet that uses positive beliefs about food to establish eating patterns that are compassionate and sustainable.

Ayurvedic Reset Experience

September 6, 2020 //  by michele

We’ve been talking in the studio about the Ayurveda workshop and the Reset that is an option to experience the week of September 14. I’ve fielded a few questions and in case anyone else was wondering, I thought I’d put out my responses.

Will I poop my pants?
I sure hope not! While paying attention to the way our digestive processes leave the body is an element of Ayurveda, the reset process is overall very gentle. You will poop, maybe more than usual, but nothing that will cause a disruption in your daily life.

Tell me about kitchari.
My family and I eat kitchari as a regular part of our life and my children even request it. It’s flavorful and filling and very nourishing. In the fall reset you can add root vegetables for variety.

How long is it?
As long as you wish it to be, but I’ll be guiding you Monday – Thursday. On Friday you can begin to ease yourself back into other foods. It is highly recommended that you use the week prior to your reset (that is this week!) to scale back on your intake of caffeine, alcohol and foods that feel hard for your body to digest.

What happens when I don’t do it all?
This practice is between you and you. This is a practice I regularly partake in and I’m glad to share with you what I’ve learned along the way, but how you participate is completely up to you. I won’t be double checking your work unless you ask me to, and even then I don’t look at these types of opportunities as “failures” or “successes”. It’s about showing up to yourself, whatever that might mean to you, at this time.

What will I need?
I’ll be providing a number of supplies, but you will want to have on hand:

  • ghee (clarified butter, available at most grocery stores and inexpensively at Aldi; you can also make this from butter)
  • whole cumin seed
  • cumin powder
  • coriander powder
  • ground turmeric
  • unsweetened almond milk (or coconut or oat milk)
  • a few organic lemons
  • fresh cilantro if that is a taste you enjoy
  • Cinnamon/cinnamon sticks, nutmeg and/or cardamom if those are flavors you enjoy

When do I need to commit?
Honestly, the sooner the better for logistical purposes. And it’s best for you, too.

What about my other questions?
Shoot me a text, send me an email, whatever. There is no silly question and I applaud curiosity as a spiritual gift

September Educator Special

August 17, 2020 //  by michele

On sale from August 17-September 11

First there was the August Anticipation & Anxiety. What will this year be like? What is expected? How will we operate? And in the next few weeks we shift from planning to do the thing to actually doing the thing.

Here’s one of the only truths I know about being around young people: They Feel What We Feel. Our emotions and energy are contagious. Raising babies taught me this at a physiological level. Have you ever tried to calm a crying child while angry? It’s like raking in a windstorm.

Teachers, administrators, and people in the school buildings: I want to cheer you on. I want to help. But, like, from a distance. If a regular yoga practice is what will ground you and keep you calm, remind you that the power of the mind & the openness of heart will shift your entire experience, and give you the strength and ease you need to navigate a school year in the midst of a pandemic, then I want to do what I can to help.

I’ll be offering a special rate to educators on a month of UNLIMITED yoga at half price. Instead of $85, for $42 you can purchase a one-month pass for as many classes as you can make work in your schedule. Our fall schedule boasts classes 5 evenings a week, 2 on the weekends and an early morning option to start your midweek right.

You can purchase your month of unlimited yoga online – the Teacher Unlimited Pass is available now and will expire one month from purchase date. It is only available to purchase until September 11, and all passes purchased at that time will get a full month of classes.

New Class Added!

June 14, 2020 //  by michele

Gentle Yoga

Beginning July 1, we will add two classes to our schedule, both a Gentle Yoga option. This class will strongly utilize props such as chairs, blocks and the wall and emphasize strength and balance. This is the perfect class option for those who need to be more careful with their joints like wrists and knees. Bring your mat and a towel or small blanket with you to class. (Don’t have one? We sell both at the studio.)

We’re going to offer this class on Mondays at 10 AM and Wednesdays at 4:30 PM. Toni Daughenbaugh is the lead teacher for this one and she’s so excited to share with you breath-centered movement.

The class is now on the calendar and is available for pre-registrations. Our first class has filled, but you can sign up for following weeks or add to the waitlist!

Props for home & studio practice

April 17, 2020 //  by michele

As we continue to practice from home, I realize that many people wish they had some of the props we regularly utilize in the studio. Pair this with the fact that, upon return, we will need to keep physical contact minimized so we will not be borrowing out props for quite a while. (I simply cannot keep up with laundering blankets and the extra cleaning of blocks.)

To make things easier on you, I’ll be selling some of my prop supply. Here’s how this will work:

  • Order your props online
  • Pickup curbside on Monday, April 27 from 6-7 PM. (If this time doesn’t work, let me know and we’ll work something out!)
  • As we re-open you will need to bring your own props from home. You will not be able to borrow props or mats.

Props for Sale

Blanket $20

Foam block $15

Cork block $20

Special Order options

I will not be selling my bolsters at this time. If you would like to special order a bolster or eye pillow, please let me know by Monday, April 27 and I can add to my order as I restock my own supplies. I cannot guarantee delivery before we reopen but I will do my best. These orders are through email only – you won’t find these products online and they are not for pickup.

Props to special order

Silk eye pillow $12

Small round bolster $35
