Spring Renewal Restorative

March 2, 2024 //  by michele

7 PM
Friday, March 22, 2024

As nature blossoms anew, so too can our bodies and minds find rejuvenation through the practice of restorative yoga. In this class, we invite you to embrace the energy of the season by releasing tension, fostering forgiveness, and welcoming a sense of renewal.

Focus on letting go of any lingering heaviness or resentment from the past as you awaken the body and release any stiffness accumulated during the winter months. With each breath, allow yourself to let go of physical tension, inviting a sense of openness and ease into every muscle and joint.

The class includes a series of restorative poses designed to promote deep relaxation and surrender. Supported by bolsters, blankets, and props, you’ll sink into each posture with a sense of comfort and security, allowing your body to fully release and unwind.

Throughout the practice, we’ll weave in elements of forgiveness and self-compassion, guiding you to cultivate a mindset of letting go and moving forward with grace. You’ll be encouraged to release any burdens or grievances you may be carrying, making space for healing and growth.

You will leave with a sense of lightness and renewal, ready to embrace the beauty and possibility of the season ahead while feeling refreshed, revitalized, and deeply connected to the spirit of the season.

Mother’s Day Celebrations

March 31, 2021 //  by michele

After this year, she deserves it.

Folks, this is no year to skimp on the Mother’s Day celebration. She played teacher’s aide/tutor/school psychologist while also finding toiletpaper when it was impossible, on top of continuing her own work. And those children? They were at home ALL OF THE HOURS. They wanted to eat ALL OF THE TIME.

Give her what she wants: time away from her beloved family. (She loves you. She just needs a moment to BREATHE.)

Allow me to help.

Book your Mother’s Day Private Celebration for your own Wonder Woman, be it wife or mother (but please: choose one or the other). Each participant will receive 2 hours of:

  • Private, small group yoga instruction to guide them into relaxing bliss
  • Free flowing mimosa bar
  • Carbs, carbs, fruit, and carbs with a grazing board of meat & cheese delicacies
  • Extended time of Michele (or instructor of your choice) telling her how magical, fierce, powerful, beautiful and amazing she is
  • A special gift to take home and remember the experience of her own magic
  • All for $45 per person

These special sessions are in limited supply on Mother’s Day Weekend:

  • Saturday 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM

Fall Favorite: Golden Milk

September 23, 2020 //  by michele

This time of year I love to start my day with a warm, filling mug of Golden Milk. You can search the internet all over for recipes (there are lots!) but a few basic elements you’ll find consistent: a milk and tumeric. I love adding a spot of ghee to mine when my throat feels dry and scratchy from allergies (hint: my children have taken to adding a spot of ghee to any of their tea during this time of year for it’s throat-soothing qualities). I also looooove the warming spices of cinnamon, cardamom, clove and nutmeg. I make mine on the stovetop – keep an eye on it or it will bubble over quickly!

Golden Milk, per the Minehart Home

  • 2 cups milk of choice (we are DIGGING the oatmilk right now and it’s much more sustainable than almond milk, and more tolerable for the tummies in our home)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 whole clove
  • Several generous shakes cardamom
  • 1 inch fresh ginger, peeled and sliced open
  • 1/2 inch fresh turmeric (available at Meijer in Marion), peeled and grated
  • 1-2 tsp ghee
  • 1-2 tsp maple syrup or honey

Bring to a simmer and then strain into your favorite mug

While We Savasana

March 17, 2020 //  by michele

Sports cancelled. Restaurants closed. School on spring break. Even some work capabilities have been limited or overall released. In the words of our children, there’s nothing to do.

Now, I don’t know much about “social distancing” and have zero experience with epidemiology. But let me share for a moment something I do know something about: a resting pose.

For years I’ve watched folks enter Savasana, translated as corpse pose. Especially with those new to yoga, but even after years of practice, some people struggle with this mandated rest time. Fingers tap. Toes shake. Skin suddenly itches and clothes stop fitting comfortably.

Some of this is conditioned response, especially for individuals with a history of trauma. Our bodies are designed for a level of alertness to keep us safe and out of danger (thank you, sympathetic nervous system). This sense of ok-what’s-next-ness is part of the hardwiring.

AND.

And the undercurrent of our society has taken that hardwiring and hotwired it. We’re a culture that thrives on fear: fear of not being enough, doing enough, having enough. The millions of advertisements every day convince us that we have a whatever-sized-hole in our hearts that can only be filled by their product. Without the next, newest, nicest we will fail to find worthiness as a human.

What in the world does this have to do with pandemics and yoga poses?

Second to the concern of our citizens and our healthcare system is how this entire situation will affect our economy. As a local business owner, I feel this. Hard.

Here’s the tricky truth of our economic prosperity: we begin to believe that we’re only as valuable as what we can produce or consume. But we are worth far more than that.

In the weeks preceding this situation I found myself telling yogis this “doing nothing” rest pose is just as valuable – if not more so – to their overall practice as the most complicated balancing pose they attempted or mastered that day.

In the same way, as a human, you maintain the same worthiness while doing absolutely nothing as when you’re doing the most important work you do all day.

We’re being corralled into savasana – a really long, beautiful rest. Some of us cannot work fully or at all. (Some of us are working double-time and I vote we give you a break, too, when this blows over.) We’re going to find ways to wiggle around and avoid the rest: cleaning the kitchen, Kon Marie-ing our closets, creating governance over the children’s day. And while there’s nothing wrong with those things in and of themselves (it IS the perfect time for a good spring cleaning), please notice the thoughts and feelings that arise in your “uselessness” time.

You’ll hear the echoes of that other side of life: You’re not doing enough. You’re not making, consuming, contributing enough. You’re not enough.

The beauty of the Savasana is when you find that place where you can remember that you are enough. This is enough.

You’re not measured by your income, expenditures, hours logged, or GDP. There is a place deep within where you can remember this, when you quiet everything else to hear the soul whisper enough.

Subtle & Slow

Yin, Somatic, and Restorative Yoga Workshop

East Meets West in Body, Mind and Heart

Learn how eastern perspectives relate to western understanding of the human potential. Awaken and align the relationship between bones, tissues, organs, and glands to illuminate the subtle energetic pathways in the body, known as chakras, for a fully integrated experience.

This slower practice beginning with generously held yin poses is designed to help you notice what signals and messages your body has to offer. Allow time and gravity to be your ally in this nourishing, meditative experience. From this place of awareness,  we’ll relax into deeply restorative poses to allow time to soak in the embodied presence of the Self.

This workshop provides information from multiple sources as we include presentation-style understanding of eastern modalities, an experiential and body-centered practice.

Sunday, April 5 | 1-3 PM |$30*
